Question:

Dog vaccine requirements - US to Hungary?

Moving to Hungary for a year in August, right around the 8th or 9th. I called the Hungarian embassy and they said the requirements are only to obtain a pet passport. Then I in my searching found a website that said not only does she need a pet passport, but also the vaccine shot needs to be at least 30 days old. I called a Hungarian travel agency and they said it needs to be done within ten days of travel. Can anyone tell me what is correct?

  1. normally a vet's health certificate dated no earlier then 10 days prior to departure, and some countries will quarantine the animal for a few days upon arrival...i would call the airline whom you purchased your ticket. They will have the most accurate information.

  2. That sounds right, the 10 day before flight.I  was going to bring my bird to Hungary a few years ago and it was a 10 health certificate that I got.

wasn't able to bring him aboard at the last min. due to the airline rules at that time, a whole long and sad story in itself.

My girlfriend brought her Doberman to Hungary from Florida a few years ago, it was fine after the long trip and my son's wife brought her dog and cat to the US from Hungary.

Hard on the animals but if they are healthy, they will recover  a few days just like a human.

I don't think there is a quarateen here for dogs in Hungary. My dog had to go through that when I moved to Hawaii with him, not recomened to do to any animal.Good luck, you will like it here.
