  1. How long is he in the cage?  Is it just to sleep or during the day when you are gone ?  We need a little more information

  2. Give him treats when hes in his crate. Try that.

  3. when he is whining, reach in the kennel and squeeze his mouth shut and say NO!!!!. it works... dont squeeze to hard, just a little sqeeze will do. You must be persistant, it will take about a week, but slowly stop completely. Persistance is the key to any kind of training!!

If you want something different... put a bark collar on him when hes in his kennel at night or home alone or done something bad...... but take it off when he comes out.

Kennels are NOT cruel, as long as they are of appropriate size. It would be next to impossible to train a pup if you work ANY job that requires you to leave your doorstep, a kennel is a must... and eventually he wont hate it, it will be his bedroom, you'll notice him going in there alot. Don't lock him in the kennel for no reason though, only over night and when you're gone, if you're home, leave the kennel door open, and have it in the living room or something, where you spend most of your time, put a pillow and some toys in there to make it inviting. When you clean up, put all his toys in there.

    Good Luck! Hope this helped!

ps, giving him treats.... after he whines will only make the problem a whooole lot worse, trust me. you'd be rewarding him for bad behaviour.

  4. dont take him out when he whines or bark, if you do that it means  that if he wants to come out, he has to whine or bark. Just leave him in the cage, when he stop barking or whining, praise him. Put a special toy in the cage and take it away when he's not in the cage, its just for when he's in the cage.

  5. How was it raised before you got it? 8 months is pretty old to change routines like that. We got our dog at 7 months and there is no way she would have liked being in a cage all day at that age!! Maybe consider some different training methods? Or maybe your dog isn't getting enough attention and excersize and thats why it is crying?

  6. Dude, crates and cages are definitely cruel if they're there for more than 1-2 hours. You can't get you're dog to like it, you never will. Put yourself in his spot! Would you be happy? No!
