Question:

Dogs and Eletrical Tape!?

I've an 8year old springer spaniel. Everytime I let him into our shed he goes straight for the bin, roots out bits of electrical tape and starts to eat it! So i'm just curious, does anyone know what they put on that tape because my dog is mad for it! And also is it harmful to him? We try not to let him eat it but it's impossible to keep him out of the bin at all time!

(PS Electrical tape or insulating tape, it's plasticy vinyl tape used on electrical wires)

  1. Im an electrician, and we use electrical tape for everything, including band aids on open wounds. Although, I wouldnt think ingesting it would be very good. As opposed to his hard plastic toys he might eat, plastic tape is softer and could get dissoved by his stomach acid, then the pcb's in the plastic may get into his blood system

ps. I have a cat that loves bleach

  2. I would say its probably the sweet smell of the glue thats on it, i've never heard of that before it made me laugh! It is not a good idea to let him have access to it cause being a plastic it will kill him in the long run or atleast give him health problems!!!! Put it where he cant get too, Good Luck!!!

  3. Don't let him in the shed then! You can put bitter apple on it (nasty taste) that may put him off eating it, you may end up with a costly vet bill s I doubt he can digest it so it could cause a blockage

  4. Throw it out.  Get rid of it.  Duh.
