I find that little doggy hoodies, socks, shoes, tiaras and clothes of any kind (except for winter 'jackets'/coats) to be barbaric and just plain stupid...what do you think?

  1. They are completely and utterly useless, in my opinion at least.

I have no complaint however about those dog jackets that you can get that go over the dogs back and you can strap around the belly so they are secure, they keep the dog warm in winter, especially if it has no hair.

Practical use only, not to play dress ups.

  2. I agree with you for the most part, though I don't consider it barbaric or stupid just not needed.  But some dogs, tiny dogs that don't have a lot of hair can have a need for it in cold weather.  My shih tzu has more than enough hair and does not have this issue, so I don't opt for this, with one exception.  I do have a raincoat for him for when it is really pouring outside and he needs to go out to potty.  I mean I have my umbrella, so why shouldn't he have some protection from the elements as well?

  3. i agree

  4. I don't believe in putting them in dresses or cutesy little outfits. However some dogs cannot handle the cold, I do put a sweater on my Boston in the winter.

  5. People think of their pets as kids and pamper them as such. I think it's cute to be honest with you.

  6. I think my dog looks cute as h**l in Reigndeer antlers - and he loves the attention he gets from people when he wears them.

  7. yuppp

im like wth its a dog not a person

  8. I wouldn't go so far as to call it barbaric, but it's unnecessary.

I see nothing wrong with winter coats, or the occasionally dressing a dog for something like holiday pictures. Not every day though.

RE: "Any clothes on animals are NOT right"

So if you live in Michigan and have a chihuahua, you're just supposed to let him freeze all winter?! THAT would be 'not right'.

    .

  9. I find dog clothes to be really stupid, and I always feel so bad for the dog that has to go through that!  The dogs already have their own clothes, FUR!!!!  I have to wear a winter jacket on my dog because hes a pit bull and their fur doesn't protect them enough from cold.  Coats are just to help the dog.

ADD: and I will admit i put funny goggles, glasses, and christmas antlers on my dog, but not like i leave them on, and they aren't even made for a dog!

  10. you know what i saw at a pet store and almost died a *#$@ stroller you put ur dogs in i mean like come people its not cute poor dogs!

  11. "except for winter 'jackets'/coats"? Any clothes on animals are NOT right

    Edit

Except for shoes on horses ( :

  12. Hahaha, I agree. However, I have a Dalmatian and if we don't dress her in the winter time for the weather (it gets to be -30 degrees here and icy) she could easily catch pneumonia. She also wears her shoes to keep the pads of her paws from cracking because of the cold. So in that case its a smart thing to do. If you want a good laugh you can click here and see her all dressed up :P

  13. I concur!!!!

I know to some people your pets are like your children...so let me ask you this...

Why would you be so cruel to your children??? Why?? If they could talk they'd probably sue you!

  14. Agreed!

However, there is one time that I LOVE to dress up Pilot, my 89-90 lb golden retriefer to your left <-----------, and that is for Halloween, only!

  15. yep

  16. I agree.

They make me wonder what's going on in their brain.

Who knew that dogs needed sun visors?

Oh, or those baby carriers that people strap to their front with the dog in it.

  17. I disagree with "doggie fashion" but I do agree with some coats. I used a full body coat when I was showing my Gordon Setter to protect his coat when walking from the car to his crate at shows (especially when muddy) and on our old Labs sometimes we put a Drizabone on them to give them a bit of extra warmth. For outside dogs in cold areas, I think it can be barbaric to not use coats. Especially little dogs with not much fur eg chinese crested etc. Also snudes are very important with dogs with long ears while feeding, if food gets stuck on ears insects can be attracted.

I would suggest to you to be a little bit open minded, I know stupid dog clothes can be frustrating but some dog clothes can be functional and important.

  18. I tend to agree with you. I have nothing against practical wear, but I'm not a fan of "dress-up" clothes, although I wouldn't go as far as to say they're "barbaric." Humiliating sure, silly sure, pointless sure, but probably not really barbaric. I also have little problem with clothes for special occasions like Halloween or Christmas. It's all in good fun and the spirit of the holidays. But yes, I definitely agree with you about tiaras and socks and such. They're just silly, not to mention ridiculous looking. A dog is a dog, not a doll.

One of my dogs has very little protection from cold weather, and here in PA we get some pretty nasty winters. She has a $5 Wal-Mart sweater for those nasty days. The other dog has a thicker coat and has no problem with the cold, so she goes "naked." Many people are against even practical wear for dogs, but I feel those people may have forgotten that dogs, as living creatures, can indeed feel the cold, and that through generations of selective breeding, humans have removed the natural protection wild dogs have from the cold. Giving those dogs back that natural protection they have lost seems reasonable enough to me.

  19. I must say I agree completely.

Its one thing to put your dog in a winter coat or something of the like.

But dressing your pets up just for fun is plain stupid.

  20. I agree.  Dog's already have a fur coat - why try to dress them up just so people think they are cute.

  21. I think its a pathetic effort to get attention for themselves.  Its not about the dog, it's about "look at me, look at me, I've got a dog wearing silly clothes".

For these people the dog is an accessory, a toy, which they will use in any way they can to get attention.  Losers!

For me, I'd rather get a compliment because my dog is a nice specimen of the breed or is very well-behaved.  He doesn't need silly clothes to draw attention to himself.

  22. Stupid yes...."barbaric" is being a little extreme IMO (surely there are worse things).

I've got shorthaired dogs of an African breed who do benefit from a warm jacket in the winter, but that's all.  Thin, short hair isn't much of a defense against -30 wind chills we sometimes encounter in places like Montana & North Dakota (I travel with my dogs).  The person who said coats/jackets are "wrong" either lives in Florida, and/or seriously needs to get a clue.

  23. To the people saying that coats aren't right; shorthaired and no-haired dog breeds need clothes in colder climates.. Other than that, yea. I almost vomited when I saw an aisle COMPLETELY full of PINK(no other colors) dog clothes at WalMart the other day. I did at one time contemplate getting my dog a shirt that had a cute saying on it(I Pee On Bushes, with a pict. of George Bush on it) just for the laugh but I doubt I would've actually made him wear it. No pink frilly designer clothes for me, thanks.

  24. Well, my friends dog has to wear socks/shoos because he has a bad foot but other than that people can be pretty passioned about their pets but i would only put my dog in clothing for medical reasons

  25.

To me, it's more like just plain silliness, not to mention a waste of good money.  Heck, I feel that way about tattoos and face/body piercings, too!  Again silliness and a waste of money!

    People can be goofy...enuff said.
