Dogs on busses =/?

I'm from the North East where dogs are normally allowed on busses, but I got stopped by this utter **** of a bus driver the other day for just wanting to go a mile down the road with my labrador. I emailed the bus company and got this reply:

"Hi and thanks for your mail. It is driver discretion regarding this matter,

Regards

Customer Services"

Ok now fair enough, some people just dont like animals, and thats fine with me! But like come on? And surely the bus company has to have some kind of policy for bringing dogs on buses? Not just "at the drivers discretion".

  1. you are allowed to take dogs on the bus however you might be charged . i dibe a bus myself and if someone is stood at a bus stop with a dog we are not able to refuse them travel.Dont matter how far you want to go the driver does NOT have the right to refuse you. The best prson to put this matter to is the TRAFFIC COMMISIONER he is the dude that controls ALL bus company's with in the UK you can find hisnumber in the phone book. What you have beentold by the company concerned is just a cop out for them they dont like handling complaint's about the driver's. The only time it becomes the driver's dicretion is if it is a dog such as a pit bull or rottwiler but so long as they have got a muel on again they cannot be refused travel

  2. That's just a huge cop-out on the part of the bus company.

I can understand dogs being allowed at driver's discretion under safety rules (i.e if the bus if busy), but if they've stopped you just for fun - I'd be getting ready to take if further.

p.s. if it was only a mile, why didn't you just walk?  It would've been much cheaper.

  3. Often only service animals are allowed,

    same with most stores.

  4. I would definately take this further, Blind people are allowed to take their dogs on the bus!!!

I would ask to see their policy on this issue or you will be taking this further

That will s**t them right up!!

  5. I agree no dogs on buses, there was one the other night, the owner kept banging his stick on the seats as he walked past...most annoying!!

  6. only if the dog is a service animal (hearing dog, assistance

dog guide dog etc(  or if not  a service animal

the dog has be in a carrier

this done  to  prevent accidents (on both ends of the dog)

this is usually the rule at most buses (although some prohibited

all animals (unless they are service animals)

can you tell  what bus company you were trying to board

the North east means  lot of differnet states! from Maine

    to New york!)

  7. when l worked on the buses the policy was dogs could travel providing a fare was paid, except guide dogs who travelled free of charge, that was a while ago so in the society we now live in with all the red tape and that it wouldn't surprise me if what you was told about drivers discretion was the ruling now. buy some sunglasses and tell them your visionary impaired and l don't think they can refuse travel. morally its not right but neither is chastising you because you're a dog owner

  8. yep that sounds really un- fair to me!

  9. give some people a wee bit of authority and the (*&^ hits the fan, goes to there head

  10. I also agree. No dogs are allowed in mass transit unless if they were K-9 dogs, service animal, service animal training dogs.

In NY, bus and taxis are very restrict about bring dogs onto their transit.

    Same goes for New Jersey.

I have seen few bus riders sneak their small puppy into bus and bus driver told her she not suppose to do it.

  11. yeah that is crazy! I don't think it should be up to the driver.  Either the company allows it or not! It could ruin your whole schedule/day if you plan on bringing your dog somewhere while using public trans. and the driver doesn't allow the dog and then you have to wait and hope the next bus does....if your lucky! That could ruin any plans and you can't rely on them, it should def. be a company based thing.  I am living in Germany for the next 2 1/2 years and my husband and I are loving being so welcomed in restaurants, stores, buses you name it with our two black labs :o) Good luck!!!

  12. They have to have some sort of policy. Either its allowed or not. Can't be or shouldn't be at drivers descrestion.
