Question:

Dogs or cats adoption?

I was on craigslist and people were putting their dog or cat up for adoption. Well aren't they selling their pets? Why are they using the term adoption instead of sale? Could it be that the word adoption sounds better then sale? Please help me understand why people use the term adoption instead of sale.. Thanks

  1. Thats just means they are giving them away for free. Craigslist is for free stuff as well as for sale item. Another good site to use, if you are looking for a free item is freecycle.org. They also post animals.

  2. When you adopt an animal from a shelter often you have to pay a fee. It is still adoption isn't it?

Nowhere in the definition of adoption does it say it has to be free.

While it is misleading to say adopt, it is correct, and sounds more friendly

  3. You sell objects, you don't sell living things. Saying that your selling an animal shows that you don't have a lot of respect for animals. And people adopt children. You have to pay for that. Does that mean that your buying a kid?

  4. Yeah, unless they are giving away the animal for free because otherwise the animal will be homeless, I'd say they're just selling them. They do probably just think adoption sounds better and more people will be interested.

  5. Craigslist won't allow you to sell a pet. You can rehome it and a small adoption fee is OK.
