well it all depends on your character or type of living personality is like to decide on what type pet you might want to get:

-if you enjoy the outdoors a lot, you're pretty much energetic when it comes to outdoor activities, & you tend to exercise a bit almost everyday: then get a dog.

-if you kind of enjoy the outdoors, but not really a big enough fan of wanting to exercise to do it almost everyday, & you enjoy the indoors more than the outdoors: then get a cat.

but if you are a bit of both things: why not get both a dog and a cat (that wouldn't attempt to fight when you're not watching them)
