I ran cross country last year and did distance in track and did okay. However, I really want to make the varsity cross country team this fall. I realize that I will have to run and practice a lot. Can anyone give me any pointers on how to pracitce/ run a race the right way? (I am a 15 yr. old girl and our races are 2.5 miles.)

  1. hello, im a junior in high school and ive been running cross country, and 6 seasons of track in the past 3 years.

over the summer, you can just start exercising your leg muscles more, walking running biking jogging they all help alot with running. but id say maybe at least 3-4 times a week, run 3 miles in a day more in the morning time, in the morning your muscles work harder, and it strengthens your legs.

the days that you dont run, make sure that you at least swim, bike, or any of that stuff. swimming strengthens your upper body, which is also pretty important.

if you cant run the 2.5 - 3 miles right off the bat,, thats ok just make sure you start out slow, and do as much as you can. but no matter what, you have to think you can do it, and know you can do it becuase if you dont believe it and you give up, then you will never be able to do it

    but most importantly, HAVE FUN!
