I am hoping some of the exercises in it will help slow down my horse (I have your same problem)

Here are some that are specifically grid..though I looked at these in the store and I like the book I bought better..There are more exercises and it is nicely formatted

Sorry I can't actually speak from experience..

    Good luck with your horse!

  2. Keep your horse going through it till it understands that their just wasting energy. Make sure your two-point is strong so you don't fall back in the saddle.

  3. i had the same problem with a project pony i had. She rushed to the extremes, after 9 months of training she is now very quiet to the fence. Bounces are very good for rushers, it keeps the horse paying attention to where her feet are rather than speed, the hogs back bounce is great (small vertical in front, large vertical in middle, small in back). I would not recommend bounces a lot tho, it very hard on a horses legs. Grid work is great when you use different distances such as a 1 stride to a 3 stride. Theres also exercises that require a lot of tight turns that keep the horse thinking about where shes going rather than speed. ALWAYS use half halts into fences when she rushes!!! You can also put a ground rail down about a stride before the fence and walk her into the fence, then at the ground rail trot her over the fence. Go back to small fences for awhile and just walk her over them, letting her know that theres no need to rush into them. Or you can trot into them and when she starts rushing, halt and make her stand there, then when shes quiet, continue on. Do it a few times. If you like grid work set a 1 stride and halt in the center of the fences, then continue on. Grid work is a better exercise for rushers than single fences.

    good luck!

  4. A line of bounce fences are good, always use an odd number. I find 5 most effective but do build up to it. Use crosspoles at first =]. Also, set jumps out on a figure of 8 so you are constantly changing direction and bend. This will help her balance. You can use placing poles to slow her down too, or circle in front of the jump several times so she stops expecting to jump every fence she sees. Good luck, it will take time =]
