Doing research on what SUV is best for our family. Help.?

Question

So I am looking for an SUV. YES we need one. We live in the mountains and need a 4x4 to get around. I wish I could get a little prius but No way would that work for our family needs.

We love to camp. My fiancee likes to surf we both snowboard and bike. He wants a car that can fit a long board. I want one that can fit 2 big dogs, a little dog, a baby, and both of us. With room for bags for when we go on road-trips. A car you can camp out in would be nice too. We slept in own little impreza wagon worst night ever.

I would love a 3rd row seat for when I have to haul around my kids friends. cars I narrowed down to are these 4.

I am leaning more towards the jeep mainly because I have had jeeps in the past and loves them. BUT I think the highlander would be best. It looks great. But is it tough enough?

What ride do you think would be best for our family?

avoid Jeeps

the 4Runner is ideal

it has good on road handling, not so truck like, and excellent off road capabilities.

Highlander is very good with mpg, unsure of it's off road manners.

look at Nissan Xterra

they make tents that fit the back of most any vehicle.

The Outlook, the GMC Acadia and the Buick Enclave are basically the same vehicle with different badges.

they can hold 8 people and the third row can handle adults.

Have you looked into a ford escape? I think the escape could fit your requirements.
