  1. This is the most frequently asked question from people who have found the type of martial arts that appeals to them but can't decide which art or style to take. Finding the right school, style and instructor can be a very discouraging and perplexing endeavor.

The reality is that since I don't know you from the gecko thus it makes it even more harder.  The truth is ultimately only "YOU" can make that decision. I don't believe in the "one size fits all" mentality. It would be hard to picture a sumotori who weights 400 lbs  ( person who trains in Sumo) attempting a Taekwondo's  360 jump spin triple kick.  This is not to say that such feat would be impossible.   My point is that you have to find an art that fits YOU. It does not matter which art. Find an art(s)  that will make YOU feel satisfied and confident.

I suggest the following steps to assist you in your search:

Try all styles or any other styles that you have already decided upon. Call the schools in your area to see if they are offering free lessons or find out if they have any and how much is introductory classes for a month.

Taking ONE trial classes just does not cut it because at that moment you're excited and often times this excitement often leads you to making a wrong decision such signing a long term contract ( Gasp ! Never ever sign a contract !) or other bad decisions.

Martial Arts training is about making right choices and good investment. If you are serious enough, It pays to do your homework before you do your legwork.

    Good Luck !

  2. All Kung Fu comes from Shaolin Temple Boxing, also known as Chuan Fa. I think that Wing Chun is the most effective kung fu style of all of Shaloin Temple Boxing's descendants. If you're going to do Kung Fu, do Wing Chun.

  3. I was obese and I did Kenpo Karate, it helped me with weight problems. Go for it.
