  1. its korea's land

but now japan wants to reclaim the land because its rich in fishing area, oil, etc.

    독도는 한국땅 for sure

  2. exactly right al the evidence show that Dokdo was part of korea since the year 500-600,in shilla and all those map created in the past (even the ones made in japan shows dokdo as a terretory of korea. also after Japan lost WW2 McArthur clearly showed Dokdo as a land that Japan should return it, and if Japn wanted to claim that it was there land they should have done it in 1950s.

  3. The right to land is really a complicated thing. Dokdo was NOT always part of Korea, so there is a dispute. In WWII Japan owned the entire Korean peninsula, along with Dokdo (or Takeshima) islands.

There are quite a few WWII land disputes with Japan. The Kuril Islands is perhaps the biggest one. This dispute is the reason that Japan and Russia have not declared an end to WWII hostilities. Russia originally took some of these islands from Japan, and they did actually say they would return them, but that hasn't happened. On English maps, the Kuril Islands are labeled "Owned by Russia, claimed by Japan". There are also some island disputes with China.

To say "Korea owned it first" can really be a mute argument. I mean, both Palestinians and Israelis claim to have "been in Israel first". Other land disputes are similar.

They say "all's fair in love and war", and typically land disputes arise from the collapse of a colonial empire in at least part of a region/country. Great Britain owned Hong Kong for many years, even thought the Chinese were "there first". I'm not saying who was there first should carry no weight, but when a dispute arrises, the nations just have to work towards a compromise. Rarely does "who owned it first" become a decisive factor in political disputes.

As far as the Japanese are concerned, I don't think most Japanese citizens have strong feelings about the Dokdo islands. This dispute is more between the Japanese and Korean governments.

There is really not too much to understand. It comes down to the fact that nations prefer to gain or maintain their land. They don't like losing territory! If two nations have claim to the same territory, neither wants to give it up!

It's like asking why the United States does not let Hawaii become an independent nation, despite groups in Hawaii who want to be independent. If we say "The Hawaiians were there first", then there is no question that they should be independent however, Hawaii is money, so it will remain a U.S. state. The basic principles behind land disputes are actually quite easy to understand!

  4. Well first Japanese call the islands Takeshima (竹島). Dokdo is the Korean name for them. The argument goes back 100's of years and won't likely end anytime soon especially since the waters around them are rich in Fishing, Oil and natural gas.

After WWII The Allied Powers created a territorial reunification of Japans territory the first several drafts showed the islands belong to Korea but in several of the later drafts it showed that the islands belonged to Japan. That is why Japan claims they belong to them Also their is a long documemented history of them belonging to Japan. Both sides have a lot at stake and a lot of evidence for their side.

Really it will need an International solution to solve this but the world seems to lack any will to do so.

  5. because the sea surrounding dokdo/takeshima is very important for fishing.

But normal people in japan and korea don't care about those little rocks, and probably don't even know of their existence.

  6. It's because Japanese...and I don't get Koreans don't you know any history of Takeshima ? huh ?

You know many historical researches proved it and Korea did not accept Japanese proposal that this issue should be debated in the international court. Why did not you do it ? It's obvious...

    Ask your government why...

Japanese people are not hysteric about this problems as you are...but it's annoying. It's just been one of nationalistic propagandas for you Koreans for decades...what the f**k is the song of Dokdo ? Wake up !!
