  1. HT gurus right,

it doesnt matter about the receiver, if you can get a TRE HD decoder then great but the TRUE HD is aimed at the 7.1 systems

otherwise it will spit it out in DTS, Dolby digital etc...

Best thing to do is upgrade your cabling for a better sound performance, I didnt believe it at first about cabling making better sound but i went for the Qunex opitcal cable and it made a massive difference!!

  2. if you want to enjoy the new format like True HD and DTS HD you need a compatible receiver that can decode that audio. if your receiver cant its ok because you can always heard it in Dolby Digital 5.1 . HDMI can transmit the 2 audio formats but the HDMI cable have to be version 1.3 or higher.

  3. This link could help:

    http://www.avtruths.com/uncompressed.htm...

  4. If I could just do a little quick consulting for Biker Rob: Check out "he who must hold the remote's" avtruths link. The letters HD are used to discribe uncompressed audio. I hope you bought yourself a good enough Bluray player, because HD audio is excellent, and it's not available on all of them.

  5. Simple answer:

To get the uncompressed, or HD sound from Blu Ray or HD DVD, you can use two methods:

Either use HDMI, if you have a newer receiver that has those ports.   HD audio from a hi-def disc can be delivered this way

    OR:

Use the analog outputs on your player and hook to the analog inputs on your receiver.

Only two ways to get that sound.

  6. The audio format on Blue-Ray is going to be Dolby Digital and DTS so if you hook the Blue-Ray player to your receiver via optical cable you will get full digital surround sound.

You can get the digital audio via HDMI to the HDTV but to your receiver you need to use the optical digital output from the Blue-Ray player. You are confusing your self HD applies to the video not the audio the audio is either Dolby digital or DTS, it's digital surround sound not HD, HD refers to video.
