Question:

Dolby Digital Sound Question?

I have a Sony Bravia KDL-40V3000 1080p HD TV, Sony Bravia DAV-HDX500 Home Theater System and a Playstation 3. Now I want to have the audio from my Playstation 3 and my tv to go through my Theater system. I was thinking of using the Audio Optical (Digital) out on the TV to the Audio Optical (Digital) in on the Receiver of the Theater system. So now all of my audio going through my TV will go through the Theater system.

*Now the Question Will the audio that comes out be in the Dolby Digital that i want or just be the same thing through all the speakers?

I think this is confusing LOL

Thanks everyone

  1. I think it should work out and be in dolby digital. Though i would personally make a direct connection from ps3's audio to the receiver. This would prevent any questionable problems like what you're having now.

P.S. You sure invested a lot of money into sony products.

  2. If im not mistaken it should be in Dolby. Just make sure that your PS3 audio output is set to Dolby and DTS, since it doesnt come set out of the box. If it were me i would run the PS3 direct to the sound system via fiber, and you service right/left audio out of your TV to your sound system if it has room for a second input.

  3. There is an audio setting in all TVs that allow you to specify whether audio out via s/pdif is in DD or PCM - pick DD.

Assuming the output from the PS3 is DD (via HDMI), the question is: will the TV pass-through DD or PCM to the Home theater? Every TV is different. Some will not even pass through DD out (and most will not even play DD through the TV speakers). So check your TV manual.
