  1. DTS is not available on all dvd's. I think DTS has a much better sound for special effects, so that's what I choose when given the option.  If you need an example, watch the first action sequence of the third X-men movie in Dolby 5.1 and then in DTS, you should be able to tell the difference.

  2. Indeed. Depending on the sound processing your system is equipped with... most likely the DTS track will just sound louder.

I do believe the db levels are inherently louder based on original encoding

Supposedly since DTS tracks are larger than Dolby 5.1 files they would have a higher bit rate and therefore create a better sound stage....which is the main goal in any home theater set-up.

Personally I prefer the DTS Track.

However again... its purely subjective. We all hear things differently. Just enjoy what sounds best to you.

    Good luck

  3. DTS is better, not only is it a higher bit rate (less compressed), it is more up to date in other ways, too. For instance, in DTS, the right and left rear channels can receive individual (different) signals. Dolby essentially sends the same to both rear speakers, thus a less realistic surround effect. Dolby also limits the frequency range sent to the rear channels more than DTS, which is pretty much full range. This results in more realistic and vibrant rear channel effects in DTS, and a better match to the sound from the front speakers. So, yes DTS should be significantly better, depending on the quality and mix of sound on any particular disc.

  4. It really depends on taste and hearing,  because many people like 5.1 because they said its true surround sound meaning that is how they record the audio track and they dont like dts because is a compress audio track that have to much information in it to handle. For me DTS sound more louder, robust and like 3d the bass are deeper and the effect more noticeable.

I like both but if the movie have a dts track i choose it over 5.1 because logic said that if a DTS track is available it means that the movie was originally mix for DTS and the 5.1 option will came from the dts mix. if it doesnt have a DTS option of course 5.1 would be better than 2.0 stereo !

  5. Most people can't tell the difference.

DTS uses more "bits" so in principle should sound better, but you really need a good audio system to tell the difference.

  6. I like the DTS because it sounds louder then the 5.1 on the same volume level.  But you really can't tell on most systems.  Now there is True DTS and HD DTS, there will always be something better.
