Dolphins’ Jason Taylor set to retire after last game this Sunday – NFL News
Miami Dolphins Jason Taylor is expected to retire after his career’s last game against the New York Jets this Sunday. This was reported by the Miami Herald on Tuesday. The newspaper cited two team sources as having informed them
of the decision. However an official statement from Taylor or the Dolphins in this regard is awaited.
Taylor has finally decided to call it a day after a long career that spanned for15 years. The Dolphins’ linebacker has collected 139.5 sacks in his career which is one of the highest in the history of NFL. Taylor is currently ranked
sixth on the NFL list after Bruce Smith, Reggie White, Kevin Greene, Chris Doleman and Michael Strahan. No other Dolphins player has ever achieved this milestone.
Taylor is further expected to increase his number of sacks as he goes to the field for the last time this Sunday. There were no reports as to whether Taylor would announce his intentions before the Sunday’s game. Though it would
look much better if his fans knew they were watching their hero for the last hand before hand. The reasons of his retirement are not known as yet though age could be the deciding factor. Taylor who is 37 years of age right now would be 38 during the next season.
And it has been clearly evident that his performance though still much up to the mark has indeed went into a decline from his peak performance that was witnessed from 2002 to 2007. During these six years Taylor excelled in the game to the extent that he completed
more than half of his sacks during this period.
However, age may not be the reason for retirement as Taylor is still considered of the biggest threats the Dolphins pose. Though a better reason cannot be yet thought of as he is not known to having sustained any significant injury.
Taylor during his long career, played for the Dolphins, Washington Redskins and the New York Jets. He played for a season each with the Redskins and the Jets and spent the remaining of his time with the Dolphins. He was selected
to the Pro Bowl six times and was awarded the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award in 2006.
Apart from being a footballer, Taylor has worked for a charity organization called the Jason Taylor Foundation which is a non-profit organization that helps needy children by providing them with education and healthcare. For this
he was named the 2007 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year.
