The former South African all-rounder, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lance-Klusener-c72175, was appointed on Wednesday as the interim coach of the Durban-based franchise, Dolphins, till the end of the ongoing 2011-12 season.
The appointment was made after Klusener’s predecessor, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graham-Xavier-Ford-c60657, stepped down from the coaching role last week to join the Sri Lankan cricket team in a parallel role.
Klusener, the 40-year-old former Natal all-rounder, is best remembered for his stupendous performance in the 1999 World Cup in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, where he was adjudged as the ‘Man of the Series’, despite his side failing to make it to the
final. He retired from international cricket in 2004 and has been involved in various administrative roles in the game since then. He has a Level 3 coaching qualification and has been involved with the Dolphins for the past three years. He has assisted the
South Africa A team as well.
Klusener, who has also worked with the South African High Performance Program, said that he was proud to take up the coaching role of the Dolphins and vowed to help the side become http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757’s number one franchise.
"Being a former Dolphin, I am very proud of my team and want to be part of the process of rebuilding the team to its rightful place as South Africa's No. 1 franchise," said Klusener.
The president of Dolphins, Faeez Jaffer, said that they are targeting the upcoming T20 competition and hoped Lance’s vast experience would help the side perform well in the shortest format of the game.
"We are still focused on the T20 competition," said the Dolphins president. "With Lance's vast experience at our disposal, we believe that our players will be challenged and want to perform. Lance also has first-hand knowledge of
the dynamics and makeup of our team," he added further.
The Dolphins have not won a Trophy since 2004-05 and in a bid to bring back glory to the Durban franchise he has bought the services of belligerent http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SW-Tait-c2616 for the upcoming
Twenty20 tournament.
The Dolphins will soon advertise the vacant head coach position to start a formal recruitment process.
