Dolphins former QB Dan Marino offers to facilitate Peyton Manning’s arrival in Miami-NFL News
The Miami Dolphins’ former quarterback, Dan Marino, has offered to facilitate arrival of former Indianapolis Colts’ quarterback, Peyton Manning, to Miami, saying the player will be right fit for the team and can help in its turnaround in the future.
He is the latest figure from the football community to extend a helping hand to Peyton after his release by Colts on Wednesday, March 07, 2012, as a number of people have rushed to advise and help him out regarding his next move.
Even though it remains uncertain where the redundant QB will head to, Dolphins have been tipped by a majority of commentators to be the most likely fit for the player, and Marino has got a sales pitch for him.
He said:
"There's great tradition there. We've had a couple off years but believe me they'll be back. "It's a great franchise and they'll get it turned around."
At the same time, Marino admitted that Peyton will be fit for any other team of the National Football League (NFL).
He added:
"I think he fits with anybody. He's one of the best to ever play the game at that position. So wherever he ends up playing, if he's healthy, which is going to be important to Peyton, I'm sure he wants to go out there and play at a high level. Wherever he
plays, he'll be a huge impact for that team."
Marino himself is a star player of his time and a Hall of Famer. During his career, he threw for a total of 420 touchdowns and 61,000 yards.
His comments about Manning have come following the increase in speculations that the player was heading to Miami. The speculations were based on Manning’s arrival in South Florida after his release.
A couple of weeks earlier, locals in Miami had launched a campaign on a purpose-built website calling for singing Peyton on his availability in the market.
Now the campaign has been joined by some former players like Marino and officials who are urging the Dolphins to pursue Peyton.
Apart from Dolphins, the New York Jets, Tennessee Titans, San Francisco 49ers and other teams are also weighing their options for exploring the opportunity to sign Manning.
Jets and Dolphins are most talked-about destinations that the player might be heading to and a formal process of negotiations is expected to start after the trade deadline of March 13, 2012.
Peyton himself has said to be unaware of his potential suitors and is focused on his recovery and rehabilitation, which he said has remained on target and progressing well.
He said he was determined to play football again and, while calling his recovery to be on the target, added that he had nothing to prove to anyone.
