Dolphins lose first-round pick Odrick for at least two weeks
In a Week 1 that was full of injuries, the Miami Dolphins caught the injury bug as well. Defensive end Jared Odrick will miss at least this Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings and maybe longer. Odrick was injured in the third quarter on opening weekend
when a Bills player rolled onto his leg.
The severity of the injury is not known yet. Odrick could potentially miss six weeks, if the injury is a fracture on his fibula. Team sources have said that Odrick will visit with doctors and the team is optimistic that the injury is not serious. Odrick
could potentially return for a Week 3 showdown against the New York Jets. If the injury is indeed a fracture, then Odrick will not be back until late October.
The Dolphins selected Odrick 28th overall in this year’s draft. Odrick helped the Dolphins’ defence shut down the Buffalo Bills in a 15-10 victory to kick off the season. The Dolphins’ young defence looked impressive as they shut down the electrifying
rookie running back CJ Spiller.
The injury is a disappointment, as the Dolphins will face a tough test in Minnesota this Sunday. The Vikings have Adrian Peterson waiting to re-establish himself as an elite running back and Brett Favre looking to find a rhythm with his receivers. Pressure
on Favre will be critical in forcing bad plays and keeping the Vikings offence out of sync.
The Dolphins have signed defensive end Lionel Dotson off the Denver Broncos practice squad. Dotson was a former draft pick of the Dolphins in 2008, but he failed to make Miami’s final roster this year.
The Dolphins will wait for further diagnosis on Odrick’s status and give a clearer timetable soon on his return. One thing’s for sure, the Dolphins defence will be put to the test.
