Domenico Criscito and Reto Zeigler unlikely to join AC Milan
AC Milan have ruled themselves out of the race to sign defenders Domenico Criscito and Reto Zeigler.
Rossoneri’s defensive woes, particularly in the left back region, have been well documented over the last couple of seasons. Massimiliano Allegri has tinkered frequently with his selections, but the wide area continues to be a
source of concern. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gianluca-Zambrotta-c14831 all have tried to weave their magic, but to little effect.
After a summer of attacking reinforcements, AC Milan CEO Adriano Galliani had declared earlier this month that the club would be looking to reinforce the defence. CFC Genoa’s Domenico Criscito and UC Sampdoria’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Reto-Ziegler-c30895 were
the two names linked with a Rossoneri switch.
Media reports coming out of Italy had suggested that Milan were close to agreeing terms with both the Genoese clubs. Sadly, for Rossoneri faithful, Galliani’s latest comments indicate that the proceedings have not been as smooth
as reported.
"Neither Criscito nor Ziegler will come to Milan because there is no deal financially," Galliani told the press. It's only a problem of costs, but for the moment we consider the demands of Genoa and Sampdoria to be excessive."
UC Sampdoria are demanding 3.5 million Euros while AC Milan are unwilling to pay more than 2.5 million Euros. Criscito, on the other hand, is expected to cost in excess of 15 million Euros. Galliani has made it clear that the Red-and-Blacks
will not be forced to pay excessive amounts for their transfer targets. However, the CEO left room for optimism with his comments. There is significant time left before the January transfer market draws to a close and a move may still materialize.
"I don't rule out the possibility of someone coming in before the end of the transfer window. I am saying that Criscito and Ziegler won't arrive, but we are looking for an opportunity and if one arises we will jump at it, otherwise
we'll stay the way we are."
AC Milan have also been linked with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-Lyonnais-c40130. The Brazilian, although a winger by nature, has been used to good effect as a left back by Selecao managers. Lyon are expected to demand an exorbitant fee
for the versatile player’s services, rendering the news as more of a speculation than a fact.
With the former European champions set to face Tottenham Hotspur - a team with deadly wing play - later this season, and a lead at the top of Serie A chart begging to be defended, Silvio Berlusconi will have to dig deep into his
pockets sooner or later.
