The Italy left-back was dropped from the Euro 2012 squad after he was handed a notice of investigation on his alleged involvement
in the Scommessopoli scandal.
Cesare Prandelli has been given a selection headache at the most wrong time due to the Scommessopoli match-fixing scandal that has hit Italian
football. This is the second major scandal after the Calciopoli scandal which saw Juventus dropped into the Serie B, and points were deducted from various big clubs for their involvement in tampering with officials in matches.

After Criscito was called in for questioning, Prandelli felt it better to drop the Zenit St Petersburg left back from the Italian Euro 2012 squad.
The probable reason for his exclusion is the possibility of Criscito becoming a liability for the national squad further ahead in the tournament, if he is found guilty of the charges levied against him.

However, the 25-year-old feels hard done by the decision and stated that the charges levied against him and his colleague, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Leonardo-Bonucci-c22064, is
the same and he should not have been singled out like that. Criscito did not say that Bonucci should have been excluded from the squad because of the allegations but stated that they both have earned the chance to represent their national team.

The former Genoa player reflected on his views and stated:
“Receiving a notice of investigation does not mean you are guilty. Both Bonucci and I deserved the chance to play for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Italy-c2926.”
The reason for the call for inquiry arose after Criscito was seen in pictures with the personnel charged with fixing matches. The former U-21 star was optimistic that the truth will rise
to the surface but felt he was penalized because of a mere photograph; he was quoted to have said:
“I am confident that sooner or later the truth will come to light. I was punished simply because I was in a photograph, as I was explaining to fans why things went badly against Siena.”
The former Juventus player pleads his innocence and states that he has never known the reported individuals before the picture was taken and he was there to explain the result against
Siena to the Genoa fans’.
