Domenico Di Carlo not about to let Antonio Cassano fiasco distract him or his team
Sampdoria manager Domenico Di Carlo said Wednesday, 10 November, that he prefers to concentrate on his team's upcoming matches, and that he can not afford to be bothered by the club's decision to appeal to rescind the contract of striker Antonio Cassano.
"I'm not thinking about players who are not here," Di Carlo stated during a press conference when asked about his feelings toward the Cassano situation.
"I think that the young people in our squad are showing the right mentality, that we are a great team. In our last match (a 0-0 draw with Catania) I saw strength, character, and other features that are part of the DNA
of Sampdoria."
Sampdoria gets set to play Parma in their next match on Thursday and they will do so without Cassano, as his contract dispute continues to move forward.
Although Parma are in the bottom three of the Serie A standings, Di Carlo warned about taking the game lightly when he said, "It will be an important test for us, we have to be ready. We want to collect three
important points.
"We must be very careful, as we'll challenge a side that is angry."
Cassano's contract was set to run all the way until 2013, but the club have accused him of several circumventions to his contractual duties including
insubordination, contesting the club's directorate and excessive criticism.
The relationship between Cassano and the club hinges around one particular incident in which Cassano was alleged to have abused club's president,
Riccardo Garrone, during a training session two weeks ago after the 28-year-old had failed to attend a charity event sponsored by the club.
Cassano was in his fourth year with the club and scored 4 goals in seven league matches this season.
