Domestic Anti-Corruption Units in all Cricket boards says Wasim Akram
In another development related to the ongoing corruption saga in the world of cricket, the Cricket Hall of famer Wasim Akram has said that there should be an anti corruption unit in all of ICC’s member countries cricket boards.
Wasim, while talking to reporters said that it was unjust to pinpoint only Pakistan, when talking about corruption in cricket. “Why only Pakistan, I ask. It should be formed in all the cricket playing nations.”
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wasim-Akram-c96292 was not happy with the International Cricket Council’s approach in dealing with corruption related issues. Wasim was clear in stating that the International Cricket Council (ICC) was slow in reacting to match fixing
issues. Wasim said that the International Cricket Council should have thought about forming the Anti Corruption Units (ACUs) almost five years ago.
Earlier the International Cricket Council had given the Pakistan Cricket Board some recommendations for cleansing Pakistan cricket from all forms of corruption.
Wasim Akram has welcomed these recommendations by the International Cricket Council. The left arm fast bowler feels that the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 cricket board should immediately implement these recommendations, as they will help Pakistan
in the long run.
Wasim Akram said that the Pakistan cricket board needs to educate the players and create awareness amongst them about the consequences of indulging into match fixing activities.
Wasim criticized the Pakistan cricket board for having major flaws in its administrational structure and believes that the warning given by the International Cricket Council to the Pakistan Cricket Board to fix its administration
definitely has some truth to it, “This has never happened in the past, there is a lack of vision and leadership because of which PCB is in complete mess. Nobody in the board knows what exactly is going on because of which the world in ridiculing us.” said
Wasim.
However, Wasim Akram was clear in one thing that corruption in cricket is an international phenomenon and not just Pakistan in particular. He urged the International Cricket Council to make sure that other countries also are forced
to formulate domestic anti corruption units just like Pakistan has been forced to.
Wasim Akram, who made his Test debut in 1985 against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754, has a phenomenal record of 414 wickets in test cricket. He was lethal in the 1992 ODI World Cup victory of Pakistan and is considered as the best exponent of reverse
swing in the world of cricket.
Nevertheless, Wasim Akram also has had his share of match fixing allegations as well. In the late 90’s, Akram was accused of match fixing; particularly of the 1996 World Cup quarterfinal loss to arch rivals http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 in Bangalore.
Wasim, along with other major players who were accused of match fixing, faced a thorough investigation by a tribune setup by the Pakistan Cricket Board which was headed by Justice Malik Qayyum.
The tribune failed to gather solid evidence against the accused players and acquitted Wasim Akram of any wrong doings, though the findings of the tribune have never been made public.
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sultan-c91758 of Swing feels it is finally time to fix things at home, improve the domestic cricket structure and clear Pakistan’s name from match fixing once and for all.
