Domestic T20 tournament shifts from Rawalpindi to Lahore – Cricket News Update
Based on reports, it was recently learnt that Pakistan’s season opening limited overs competition has now been shifted from Rawalpindi to Lahore.
The reason for the shift of cities is stated to be the poor conditions at the Rawalpindi stadium as well as negligence of the venue’s management for a timely renovation and overhauling prior to the event.
Before the shift of venues, Rawalpindi was scheduled to host the domestic competition from September 16.
However, for now, the limited overs tournament will be staged at the all famous Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, and will proceed onwards from September 25.
Initially, following the impressive outcome of the recently wrapped up Faysal Bank Super Eight T20 Cup in Faisalabad, the country’s cricketing governing body, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board (PCB) decided to host similar limited overs tournaments all across the nation,
particularly in the smaller cities.
Ironically, the recent Faysal Bank Super Eight tournament was won by the local side, Rawalpindi Rams who managed to earn the tournament title after defeating Karachi Dolphins in the one over eliminator.
The competition kicked off on June 24, 2011, at the Iqbal Stadium, Faisalabad and after eight days of competitive cricket, it came to its eventual wrap up with the tournament final.
As for the upcoming competition, the scheduled delay in the fixtures may come with some relief for the audience and fans since September 25 would mean that the national players would also be available to join the competition following their tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045.
All the fixtures for the tournament will be held at the Gaddafi stadium and will come out with fourteen teams, which will be broken down into two groups, seven teams apiece.
Bringing in a slight addition to the event, a team from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Multan-c819
Tigers, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hyderabad-c792 Hawks.
The match timings and fixtures are yet to be finalised by the officials.
