  1. It costs thousands of dollars because babies are treated as a commodity in a business dealing in human infants

Infant adoption in the US is no longer a social service for the children.  It's an industry with questionable ethics.

  2. Not sure were you are getting the $30,000 for US adoptions.  The fee varies on each situation.  Lawyers fee vary, adoption agency fees vary.  My husband and I are looking into a Christian Adoption Agency and the fee will be roughly $8,000 not counting our lawyer fees.   In the end probably roughly around $12,000.

The cost get hirer when couples usually use private attorneys only and the paperwork is drawn up where you pay for the woman's living arrangements, expenses, etc.  I personally do not like this arrangement because to me I feel the bmother is doing it too get payment in a way.

If you adopt through foster care there is very little cost.  The state covers most of the fees.

  3. Yes, there are women placing. It doesn't always cost $30,000.I would say $10,000-$2000 is more like it. It depends how many people you pay. You can pay an agency (homestudy, adoption prep classes, etc), lawyer, facilitator (someone to help you find a match) or advertising. You can pay expenses for the birthmom. Sometime if you are willing to pay more people to help you look, and pay more adoption expenses you'll find a match faster. It is not a very good system, and there are some unethical people out there! But you can adopt for considerably less than $30,000.

  4. The agencies charge that much.  I adopted a baby boy, as a single mom, privately, legally, with a completed home study, attorney, and court hearing.  It cost less than $1000.00, plus I had the birth parents move in with me, so I paid some extra utilities, etc.  (No money EVER to either of them though).  Network with friends, and see if anyone knows of a woman who might be in a position she can't keep the baby.  I believe agencies are in it more for the money, and put a lot of undo pressure on pregnant women.  We are networking again to try for a brother or sister for our son.
