Domestic battery charge, Miami Dolphins cut WR Chad Johnson – NFL News
Wide receiver Chad Johnson’ stay in Miami proved too brief as the alleged domestic violence issue has cost him the Dolphins’ job - he was cut by the team minutes after his release from jail – probably good news for coach Joe Philbin who had recently become
critical and annoyed of the player’s profanity with journalists.
Chad is accused of head-butting his wife Evelyn Lozada, who he had married only a month ago, after getting upset during an argument that stemmed from a discussion over a controversial receipt for a box of condoms found by her in the player’s car trunk.
As per details of the incident, Lozada said she had to run to neighbours to call the police for help. According to the police, she had about a three-inch cut on her forehead, which the player claims was a result of her head-butt on him.
The receiver was immediately arrested but later released on a $2,500 bond. He is charged with a simple domestic battery, a misdemeanour count.
Chad’s lawyer Adam Swickle said that his client has been issued an order that prevents him from further contacting Lozada, who is appearing in a reality TV show ‘Basketball Wives’.
It was not clear at the time of filing of this report when the player is due to appear before the court or if a date for regular hearing of the case has been set. It is also yet to be known if he has pleaded guilty to the charge.
Away from the pending legal course, the incident has done a considerable damage to Chad's pro career. It had already been threatened by the player’s deteriorating terms with Dolphins head coach. Joe a couple of days ago had warned the receiver that his place
on the roster was questionable over his loose talk with media.
Soon after the team’s practice on Sunday, the time when Chad was being released from the jail, Joe said:
"We're going to deal with this. We're not going to waste time. We're all in this thing together. Everybody that sets foot in this building, we're all held to a high standard."
It was an indication then that the WR’s stint with Dolphins was over and a few minutes later he was confirmed to have been waived by the team.
This is a serious setback for the player, who had been struggling to get over with his poor season with the New England Patriots last year. The Patriots had released him earlier this year, but he was lucky to land in Miami within four days of the waiver.
A few days later, the receiver married to Lozada and granted her the wish to change his name from Chad Ochocinco to Chad Johnson. Now he seems to be back at the lowest point of his career and life.
