Domestic hockey player of India passes away during match
A worker of Food Corporation of India (FCI), Pardeep Kumar Sharma died during a hockey match at the PCMC Polygrass Stadium, New Delhi the capital of India.
Food Corporation of India Headquarter (FCI-HQ) was playing a match against FCI squad of North Zone in the ongoing All India Inter-zonal FCI-Tournament.
Pardeep Kumar Sharma, the 58-year-old hockey player was playing at forward position for the squad, fell to the ground in the 27th minute of the match due to cardiac arrest. The match was instantly stopped and medical team was rushed to him. He
was hurriedly moved to nearby Yashwantrao Chavan Hospital but to no avail as he had already expired.
Shridhar Thamba the referee of the match talking to the media said, “Sharma was running forward when he suddenly slowed down and subsequently fell down. The game was immediately stopped and when even during the half-time the medics couldn't revive him he
was immediately taken to the Yashwantrao Chavan Hospital where he was declared dead.”
Pardeep Sharma was a finance manager at the Headquarter of Food Corporation of India (FCI) situated in New Delhi, who is survived by two children and a widow. The FCI officials sent the corpse to home village for last rites.
The FCI- HQ team was leading the game against North Zone of FCI by 1-0 at the third day of All India Inter Zonal FCI-Tournament.
One of the players of West Zone FCI team, Sunil Waghmare talking to reporters said that he was informed about the incident afternoon, which claimed the life of a courageous man. He further said that the second heart attack took the life of his friend when
they were in way to hospital.
“We got to hear about his death in the afternoon itself. While he got the first heart attack on the field itself, the second came when they were taking him to hospital. Sharma was playing right till he collapsed,” Sunil added.
Soon after the incident, the 40th edition of the All India Zonal FCI Tournament was cancelled by the Zonal Sports Promotion Committee (ZSPC) of Pune in the grief of Pardeep Kumar Sharma.
