Domestic newborn adoption?

Question

I am just wondering (for those in the process of domestic newborn adoption), how long did you wait from the completion of your homestudy until you were placed with a child?

I am just curious what the average nation-wide tends to be. We were told that the average at our agency seems to be 9 - 15 months of wait. We have currently been waiting for 10 months with one failed match.

Our situation was a bit different in that we did not start the adoption process until after the birth family found us.  Because it was originally supposed to be a private adoption, and then we ended up using an agency to do an "identified" adoption, our process was much shorter.  From the time we started everything until the time we brought him home, it was less than 4 months.  Wow - it seemed so much longer than that.  But I just counted it out and it was less than 4 months.  I know others though that have waited over a year to be placed when they are going through the process with an agency.

Our placement took place about 15 months after our homestudy was completed.

We didn't start our homestudy until after we had been contacted by our son's mother.

from start of study to placement:  12 weeks.

14 months with three birthmothers who were considering us but chose someone else.  Light is near the end of your tunnel...hang in there; I know you are probably feeling impatient to start your family.  I know I was when I was waiting!
