Dominant and Recessive Genes?

I have blue eyes but both my parents have brown eyes. (My brother and I both have blue but my 2 sisters have brown.) One of my grandparents had blue eyes and one had brown.

My wife's eyes are blue and both her parents and grandparents eyes are blue. What are the chances of having blue eyed babies?

  1. The classic genetics of Brown and blue eyes are that Brown is dominant over blue (although there are other weaker factors that can effect eye color).

So in the classic view (which is almost certainly sufficient here) is that if you and your wife BOTH have blue eyes then ALL of your children will too.

  2. well if the blue eyed gene is recessive (and i think it is) then your baby will have blue eyes

  3. Blue eyes is a recessive trait and since both you and your wife have blue eyes I'm certain your baby will too.

  4. High, difficult to know for certain.

Eye color is a complicated trait.  The only one that obeys simple Mendelian rules (most of the time anyway) is brown which is dominant.

I can say with 99% certainty your kids will not have brown eyes.  They may still have green or blue.

  5. I would say nearly 100%.

Blue eye is a polygenic trait but its inheritance pattern is similar to a recessive trait.

  6. bb and probably bb

    100%

  7. Dont go too far to grandparents to confuse us!! your parents and your wife's parents are enough to know this!

since you have blue eyes, these allels are recessive because none of your parents have blue. Lets talk about your wife, she has blue eyes and her parents had too!!these may be dominent or recessive!

Donot worry 100% your babies will have blue !!!!!!!
