Dominic Dale loses to Mark Williams by 5-2 in the German Masters 2011 – Snooker news
Two-time former world champion and the world’s number three Mark Williams has beaten Dominic Dale in the last 16 to reach the quarter-final of the German Masters 2011 by a score of 5-2 in a best-of-nine frame match.
Dominic Dale played some poor safety shots and paid for them. Mark Williams had beaten Anthony McGill in the last 32 and on the other hand, Dale reached the last 16 through a walkover as Ronnie O’Sullivan did not show up reasoning illness.
After Dale’s breaking up the frame, Mark Williams was left with a long red’s pot which he tried and missed. Dale got a simple red’s pot with the rest but he made a foul himself, as he touched his cloth with the red balls and Williams was lucky enough
to get back on the table without any damage. A few safety shots were exchanged until Dale tried a difficult pot and gave Williams a simple pot in the centre from where he produced a 38’s break, before missing a simple pot and giving Dale a chance.
Dale could not produce much out of it and after making a break of 22 missed a pot, as he went a little out of the placing there. Williams this time did not give any chance and took the first frame. Second frame was not a trouble for Williams at all
as a bad safety shot from Dominic Dale was capitalised by Mark Williams. He made a break of 72 from it and after exchanging one more shot won it.
In the third frame, Mark Williams started off with an excellent red’s pot making the black but somehow missed a very simple rest shot which he could not believe for a while and gave Dale another chance. Dale was a bit unlucky there when he tried opening
the bunch with the black, which he did, and landed in a no man’s land. However, after exchanging a few safety shots Dale responded well on getting a chance and cleared the table making the scores 2-1.
However, in the very next frame Dale again played a poor safety shot giving Mark an excellent chance to win the frame. However, he was lucky not to lose it there as Mark missed a pot in the centre after making a break of 32. On top of it Dale fluked
a red when the players where exchanging safety shots but again could not utilise it. The result came out in the favour of Mark Williams and he was leading by 3-1.
In the fifth frame, Mark Williams was found almost irresistible as he made a magnificent century break of 105 extending his lead to 4-1. Sixth frame was dominated by Dominic Dale although he again had given Williams a chance, as his cue slipped making
the cue ball jump and resulting in a foul shot. However, an attempt for the blue in the last pocket, which Williams missed, gave Dale a frame winning chance. Dominic Dale pulled a fabulous break of 98 from there making the scores 4-2.
Finally it was the Welsh potting machine Mark Williams who won against the Spaceman, Dominic Dale confirming his place in the quarter-final. Mark Williams made a break of 85 until he missed a very simple red for another century that was most likely
there.
