Dominic Inglot ousts Austin Karosi to enter main draw – Proton Malaysian Open 2012
Great Britain’s Dominic Inglot stomped over the American challenger, Austin Karosi, in straight sets at the Proton Malaysian Open 2012 on Sunday. He recorded a 6-2, 6-2 victory against the 22-year-old to power into the main draw at this ATP (Association
of Tennis Professionals) World Tour 250 series event taking place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The 26-year-old Inglot showed brilliant tennis to outclass the world number 1363 in just under an hour in their first encounter. As a result, the Brit comfortably secured a place in the first round at this indoor hard court event held from 22nd
to 30th September.
Inglot comfortably entered the Putra Indoor Stadium in Bukit Jalil. After Karosi held his serve in the fourth game, the Brit reeled off four games in a row and clinched the opener with a 6-2 score line. He blocked the lone breakpoint he came across and cashed
in both break chances to dominate.
The London native kept momentum running towards the following set. He got the crucial break in the second game and leaped to a 3-0 lead. Inglot kept his remaining serves with conviction and broke the American’s serve again in the last game, eventually sealing
the set by winning six games to two.
Summing up the Brit’s performance, Inglot fired five aces and produced a better first serve share of 67 per cent as opposed to his rival’s 57 per cent. He also tremendously marked 22 out of 26 points on it and finished the deal with 60 points.
He will face off the Russian challenger, Alex Bogomolov Jr., in the opening round.
Seeded second in the qualifying competition, Michael Yani from United States will accompany Inglot in the main draw. He triumphed over the fifth seed, Sanam Singh, in straight sets to progress.
Yani lost his serve once but capitalised on two out of eight break chances to formulate a 6-4, 7-6(4) score line in almost two hours. He smashed six aces and took advantage of several unforced errors the Indian spilled. The 31-year-old also produced a better
first serve share and amazingly clicked 36 out of 51 points on it.
