Dominic Inglot trounces Nick Lindahl in the second qualifier – Malaysian Open 2012
Right-hander, Dominic Inglot, defeated Nick Lindahl in the second qualifying round of the Malaysian Open 2012 held at the hard courts of Kuala Lumpur. The British jolted down his 6-3, 6-4 win on the eve of Saturday.
The 26-year-old, Inglot, held his initial serve in the set and dissolved the Aussie’s confidence by breaking his serve twice i.e. the fourth game and sixth game respectively. Lindahl despite of his initial loss,
struggle hard to secure the lead and busted the British professional’s serve in the seventh game. As he never had the power to take over the game and eventually gave up by facing a 3-6 loss.
Both players fired each other with the same number aces but the 24-year-old, Lindahl, secured 70 percent initial serve precision, bagging away 11 of 21 first and four of nine second deliveries. He majorly lost
the set due to his inefficiency, as he could only capitalize one of three break chances and his challenger converted two of three serve breaks to take the upper hand. The British professional maintained 55 percent initial serve precision, with 11 of 16 first
and eight of 13 second serve points.
In the second set, the winning order persisted and the right-hander Aussie held his initial serve. Both the challengers struggled against each other and evened out the score line after every alternate game. Inglot
broke his rival’s serve in the ninth game and wrapped up the set with a 6-4 win.
The Aussie achieved 64 percent initial serve, converting 11 of 16 first and six of nine second serve points. The British professional secured the lead with 61 percent first serve precision but pocketing away
14 of 17 first and six of 11 second serve points. He capitalized the only serve break presented to him, whereas Lindahl could not receive any.
For the final qualifying round, Inglot will battle against the American Austin Karosi. Previously, he defeated the Canadian native, Vasek Pospisil. The Brit needs to adopt a more attacking game plan in order
to compete against the overpowering odds, as he has never rallied beyond the initial qualifying round of the ATP World Tour events.
