Dominican Republic Holidays where is best to go?

Hi there,

Have decided to go to Dominican Republic this year with my 10 yer old son for holiday 2 weeks. Cant decide where, any recommendations on where is best for kids and families alike? What Hotel? Thanks..

My cousin went there, and although he had a good time, I don't think it's recommendable to go there with your 10 year old son. He wasn't allowed out of his resort without a guide, due the the huge amount of armed gangs in the DR. It looks nice in all the magazines, but you'll only get to experience a small amount of that, as you won't be able to move around freely. I recommend trying another location.

I think you should take a look at the Greek islands, like Crete and Rhodes. They're nice, family friendly and not too expensive. Nice weather too. Enjoy where ever you choose to go!

I have sent a LOT of families to the Dominican Republic and never once have any of them complained, they actually love it.  The key when traveling anywhere is to travel smart.  I dont' know anyone that would let a child go on their own of resort property.  The resorts will offer tours to different areas/events/actitivites that are off resort property.  The properties I most often sell to families going to The Dominican Republic are Casa d Campo, Melia Caribe Tropical, and Paradisus Punta Cana.  However, some other great Caribbean areas for families include Beaches Turks and Caicos, Beaches Negril, Grand Xcaret Riviera Maya, Windjammer Landing in St Lucia, Wyndham Sugar Bay St Thomas.  If you have two weeks you could always "island jump" - spend a week at two different destinations!

I was reading the answer of some people to your question, and I'm asking myself do they read well the question ore are they so ignorant? Anyway dear it is best possible to go on holiday with your 10 y old kid. He will have a blast! Beach, sun sea, pool, etc.,. Where to go ? I should suggest to go to the north coast Puerto Plata, where you can find some very good hotel/resorts who are child friendly. Playa Dorada is a place with more than 14 hotels and completely secure (if needed) The town is 10 min away (200.000 souls) where you can go shopping, Ocean World with her famous Dolphins (swim) and so much more, to long to tell here!. Try out with your travel agent for the Gran Ventana Hotel/Resort or the

Windham in Playa Dorada, they and many more are very good and not to expensive. I f more info needed, just ask!
