Dominican Republic defeats Chinese Taipei 3-1 in a World Grand Prix match – Volleyball news
A Pool L match of the FIVB World Grand Prix took place between Dominican Republic and Chinese Taipei on Sunday June 24, 2012. The contest was being hosted by Kaohsiung, Chinese Taipei. Despite the fact that the Dominican Republic squad was playing in the
home ground of their opponents, they were able to secure a win by 3-1.
The score board showed the following final set scores: 25-18, 21-25, 25-18 and 25-22.
The coach of the Dominican Republic squad, Marcos Kwiek, expressed his sentiments at the win in the following manner, “I hoped my team could have played better in this match but I'm still happy for the victory. We learned a lot in this match with Chinese
Taipei, and I believe it'd be very helpful for our younger players.”
On the other hand, the Chinese Taipei coach, Sakakuchi Norimasa, made the following comments about the outcome of the match, “My team played today with the strategy of having powerful serves...My players played the match according to my instructions, and
they did their best, so I take the responsibility for the loss of this match.”
The Dominican Republic player who tallied the most number of points for her side was Gina Mambru as she made her presence felt by scoring 25 points in all. On the other hand, the top scorer of the Chinese Taipei squad was Chen Wan Ting with a total of 21
points.
The opening set of the game started off with a lead by Dominican Republic at 4-1 that caused the home team to call for a time out. However, that did not affect the progress of the Dominican Republic squad as they had the lead at 8-7 when the first technical
time out was reached. Dominican Republic still had the lead at 11-7 and kept the advantage till the coming of the second technical time out. Chinese Taipei kept on trailing behind as Dominican Republic moved on to secure the first set of the game at 25-18.
The momentum generated by bagging a win got the Dominican Republic to get the advantage in the second set at 6-2 but Chinese Taipei did not let Dominican Republic go too far and levelled the score at 7-7 before taking the lead at 16-13. After the two sides
came back onto the courts, Chinese Taipei was able to bag the set at 25-21.
Chinese Taipei was leading the third set at 8-6 but Dominican Republic did not let their opponents go too far and got the advantage at 16-15 which they held on to till 25-18.
The Chinese Taipei showed determination and moved ahead to take the lead at 8-7. Dominican Republic stepped up their game and took the lead at 18-16 but Chinese Taipei regained the advantage at 21-20. However, Dominican Republic did not give up and bagged
the fourth set of the game at 25-22.
