Dominican Republic defeats Kenya by 3-1: FIVB Women’s World Cup - Volleyball
The Dominican Republic had a match with Kenya on November 11 in the FIVB Women’s World Cup that is taking place in Japan. The Dominican Republic vs Kenya match held in Okayama at the Momotaro Arena, where the Dominocans won 3-1.
The struggle between the two sides took four thrilling sets to complete, at the end of which the Dominican Republic found themselves on the winning end of the game. The victory marked the second win for the South American squad. The score board showed the
following points when the match had reached its close: 25-18, 25-14, 26-28 and 25-19.
The first set of the match started off on even ground but as the match progressed, the Dominican Republic was able to gain control and secure themselves a win. The second set saw the Kenyans show a further decrease of performance as a consequence of which
the Dominican Republic was able to smother the Kenyans in the second set. The loss of the first two sets of the game got the Kenyans into motion and they were able to put on an impressive fight that enabled them to get the third set at 28-26. Unfortunately
for the African team, that was the only moment of glory that they could experience and they lost the fourth set to Dominican Republic.
The coach of the Dominican Republic team,, Marcos Kwiek, made the following comments at the press conference after the match reached its close: “We’re very happy to get the three points from this victory; it’s very important for us. We played well in the
first two sets; we were aggressive, with good serves and serves are one of the main qualities of our team.”
On the other hand, the coach of the Kenyan side, Paul Bitok, shared his feelings in the following way: “We’ve really improved our service in this tournament and we try to attack to give us confidence because our reception is not so good. Before, we used
to panic against the big teams but now we have improved and we have more confidence playing experienced teams.”
The player that was able to lead all the scorers in the winning team was Dominican Republic’s Bethania De La Cruz who made her mark by putting up a total of 18 points. Cruz was helped by her teammates Prisilla Rivera and Candida Arias, each of whom were
able to put up 14 and 13 points respectively. The player that was the most active on the Kenyan side, who also was the top scorer of the match, was Everlyne Makuto who made her presence felt by putting up a total of 19 points for her team.
