Dominican Republic defeats Korea by 3-2 in FIVB Women’s World Cup match
The Dominican Republic and Korea met each other in a FIVB Women’s World Cup match that is currently being staged in Japan. The two teams were matched up against each other in the Japanese capital of Tokyo at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium. The Dominicans
ended up winning the match-up by 3-2.
The competition between the two sides was heated as it went on for five long and intense sets. The first set of the match saw both teams start off on level grounds but as the game progressed the Dominican Republic was able to take the lead and bag the opening
set of the game. The second set started with the Dominican Republic coming out strong and getting the lead early and sticking with it until the very end. The loss of the first two sets of the game did not sit well with the Koreans and they stepped up their
efforts in order to get a winning chance by bagging the third set.
The fourth set of the match was also secured by the Koreans and the fifth set saw an intense struggle between the two teams that kept the spectators on the edge of the seats. However, it was the Dominican Republic team that was able to seal the deal on the
match at the following final set scores: 25-19, 25-17, 26-28, 21-25 and 15-12.
The coach of the Dominican Republic squad, Marcos Kwiek, expressed himself in the following manner after the match had ended in favour of his team: “I feel that our team is getting better and better in each game. Today was another five-setter and I think
my team is in great shape, including physically. We started strongly and concentrated well in the beginning, but in the middle of the match our concentration dropped and that affected our reception and led to more errors.”
On the other hand, Kim Hyung-Sil, the coach of the Koreans shared his views in this way: “We tried hard to block Nos. 10 (Cabral), 14 (Rivera) and 18 (De La Cruz) and the reason we lost was because we gave up too many points to No. 18. But I want to congratulate
my players on doing their best.”
The player that was able to stand out as the top scorer of the match was Bethania De La Cruz, who scored a total of 31 points for her team. Cruz was helped by her team-mate Prisilla Rivera who kept the pressure on her opponents by adding 23 points of her
own. On the Korean side, the player that registered the highest points was Kim Yeon-Koung, who tallied a total of 27 points in support of her team.
