Dominican Republic defeats Poland by 3-1 in FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix fixture
A fixture of the preliminary round of the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix took place on the 20th August in Hong Kong, China, between the Dominican Republic and Poland. The resulting clash gave the Dominican Republic their second win in the tournament
at 3-1.
The final set scores stood at the following points: 24-26, 28-26, 26-24 and 25-17.
Despite losing the match, Poland gave their rivals a tough competition and made it thrilling for the spectators. The first set was tight all through with no one sure where the tables would turn until the very end when Poland bagged a win. After losing the
opening set, the Dominican Republic fought whole-heartedly in the second and got them a hard earned win. Both Poland and Dominican Republic were playing impressively in the third set as well but the South Americans proved to be the better side in the end.
The fourth set of the match saw the Polish effort slacken as the Dominican Republic won it by a comfortable margin.
Marcos Kwiek, the Dominican Republic coach made these comments at the press conference after the match: “It is always difficult to win matches against Poland. As we were a bit loose in the first set, we lost it. Our team became more focused in the later
sets and we won the match. We are happy to win this match and gain marks.”
Whereas the Polish coach, Milena Radecka, gave these statements: “Congratulations to the Dominican Republic team. It was an important game for us. We are angry that we have made lots of mistakes in important moments and lost this match today. We will now
concentrate on the next match.”
The Dominican Republic was able to take the lead early on in the opening set and extend their advantage before Poland was able to respond by closing in the gap. The set reached a tie at 20-20 but Poland was able to speed off towards a win at 26-24.
Poland was leading again in the second set at 12-7 but Dominican Republic kept on the chase and got a lead by the second technical time out. However, the competition remained close throughout when finally the Dominican Republic emerged by sealing the deal
at 28-26.
Dominican Republic was leading in the third set of the game at 4-1 but Poland managed to get the advantage at 10-8. The match got to a tie at 16-16 but the Dominican Republic prevailed in the end by scrapping together a win at 26-24.
The performance of the Polish side experienced a decrease as they were not able to match the speed and strength of the Dominican Republic who got a easy win at 25-17.
Dominican Republic is headed off to play Kazakhstan next while the Polish side will be competing with the Chinese.
