The DR was racially divided in the past by a dictator- Trujillo.  Unfortunately some of these tendencies still exist.  People are encouraged that if they can "pass" as white, to declare themselves as white.  So censuses on Wikipedia or CIAFactbook etc. show around 90 percent white, when really is it less than 10 percent.  DR citizens are mostly a mix of black and white, but lighter skinned people will refer to themselves as white or moreno/a, straighten their hair, etc.  to distance themselves from being "black".  Part of this is also due to neighboring Haiti where many dark African heritaged people live - most Dominicans do not want to be mistaken for Haitan.  You will notice also that newsanchors, magazine ads, billboards and commercials feature more light skinned people - which is not an accurate sample of the Dominican Population.  An interesting cultural study for sure.

Not particularly.  The ones that do live there have lots of money typically and have "servants" for their property.

It depends on what type of white people you are talking about. If you mean white colored skin people, yes there are quite i few. But, if you mean white people as in North Americans yes some live there but not many.

im dominican and 16 percent of the population is white and 16 percent of the population is black. the rest of the population is mixed with european, indian and african descent.
