Dominican Republic win against Germany by 3-2 in FIVB World Cup match - Volleyball
The Dominican Republic and Germany went head to head on November 12 at the FIVB World Cup that is currently being held in Japan. The city of Okayama saw a heated competition in Momotaro Arena as the Dominican squad squeaked past the Germans by 3-2.
Five set long match saw the Dominican Republic struggle but eventually win. The first set of the match was fiercely competitive with the set point being reached several times. However, after a long and hard battle, the Dominican Republic proved its mettle
by bagging a win. The second set saw the Germans equalising the match but the Dominican Republic was able to completely smother Germany in the third set. The Germans increased their performance in the fourth set and were able to take the match to a decisive
fifth. After an impressive fifth set, the Dominican Republic was able to seal the deal at the following final set scores: 30-28, 22-25, 25-14, 18-25 and 15-12.
The coach of the Dominican Republic, Marcos Kwiek, expressed himself in the following manner at the press conference that was conducted after the match reached its close: “I’m really happy about the win, but also because the team played at a really high
level and we beat one of the best teams...We did well in service and blocking and defence, but it’s important for us to maintain this level because we have so many ups and downs.”
On the other hand, the coach of the German team, Giovanni Guidetti, shared his views in the following manner: “Of course, I congratulate the Dominican Republic. So far, this is the strongest team we have played against. They have amazing attackers, incredible
blockers and it’s a team, I believe, that can play for first place in the world because my team didn’t play so bad but we could do nothing.”
The Dominican Republic were able to perform better than the Germans in terms of blocking as the Dominican Republic registered a total of 15 blocks whereas Germany tallied nine in all. Not only that, the Dominican Republic was able to play better in terms
of the service line by 8-4.
The Dominican Republic has played a total of seven matches in the tournament overall and have been able to earn victories in three of them while losing four. On the other hand, the Germans show a better record with a total of seven matches played in the
tournament and earning five wins against two defeats.
