We want to be the voice of the poor people and poor countries, so we decided to go ahead and try to find a seat in the non-permanent security council (Consejo de Seguridad). We lost in front of Costa Rica because before the voting, vice-president had an approach with Taiwan and China didn't like that, so China added pressure to vote against us. We retreated voluntarily when first voting showed us loosing at it. We will try again in the future.

The DR was one of the first of 51 founding nations of the United Nations. It is a Small Island Developing Nation and want a seat on the next UN Security Council (2008-2009). Then everybody will be happy!
