Dominick Cruz to defend his UFC bantamweight title against Urijah Faber on UFC 148 – UFC news
The management of Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) recently announced that Dominick Cruz, the current UFC bantamweight champion, will defend his title against Urijah Faber, the Californian’s old arch rival, on UFC 148.
The announcement was made by Lorenzo Fertitta, co-owner UFC, in a press conference. It must be kept in mind that the two brawlers are well acquainted with each other, and this will be their third encounter. Cruz, 26, has been in a total of 20 mixed martial
art (MMA) bouts and has fought for many MMA promoting organisations such as World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC), Total Combat (TC) and others.
Dominick, infamous as the Dominator, has only lost one bout and has secured a total of 12 wins by unanimous decision, one by making the opponent submit and the remaining six by knocking the senses out of his rivals. His career’s only loss came by the kicks
and punches of none other than but his UFC 148 rival Faber.
Dominator has stood against Faber in the octagon twice. In his first skirmish on WEC 26 pay-per-view Cruz lost to the 32-year-old Faber via guillotine choke submission. But Cruz did not easily forget the bitter pill of defeat and therefore in his debut brawl
in UFC called on Faber again for a second clash.
For Faber the clash was not only his second UFC engagement but also a second faceoff with Dominick. In UFC 132 Cruz was able to dominate and collected a unanimous win over Faber hence bringing the win-loss ratio of both men to 1-1 that is one win for each.
This third clash will definitely decide as to who is the best brawler in the bantamweight division.
Faber has been in a total 31 MMA bouts and came out victorious in 26. Though his win-loss ratio is not impressive yet his experience and well understanding of the opponent might give him an upper hand. Faber, nicknamed as the Californian Kid, is a submission
specialist. He has nailed 14 of his opponents by making them submit.
Faber and Cruz both have an upper hand on each other to some extent. Cruz will have to avoid the submission attempts by Faber on the other hand the Californian needs to come up with a plan that can break Cruz’s resilience level.
The bout is expected to take place on July 7, 2012 at MGM Grand Garden Arena situated in Las Vegas, Nevada and the above brawl will headline the pay-per-view. At the moment except the clash facet each and every thing is still to be decided.
