  1. Happy! now the Wings can either sign a goalie like Miller or Ellis, Osgood can be #1 or they can bring up Howard to back up Ozzie.

  2. he is and will always be a sabre

    HAIL THE DOMINATOR

    have a happy retirement

  3. glad. its time to move on.

  4. Happy for him - in the press he sounded like he was ready to call it a day.

  5. Dom was pretty much done after the cup in 02 but he played on and was still moderately good, but never as good. i think it will help the wings move forward and it's a great way to close out a career by helping your team win the cup

  6. Honestly.... if he really wanted to come back as a backup next year, I didnt have a problem with that. But I can live with him retiring also. Ask me in November when Howard has played a few games, or the new backup Holland acquires has played a few games! Its not like Hasek is awful. He is still better than half the goalies in the league during the regular season!

  7. I think that's good. Now Ozzy has the net all to himself.

  8. Dom was plain awesome on the ice especially in his Sabre days.  However, he is old and injury prone.  It is best he realizes that his game is gone and now is the time to leave.  To me he will always be remembered in a Sabre uniform.

  9. about time he retires. i think detroit's still okay with osgood in net.

  10. i think detroit will need to get another vetran goalie to split regular season time with osgood.  osgood seems to play much worse when he is the starter, and also plays worse when he gets the bulk of the games.  if you expect a similar playoff performance from him, he will need to play between 45-60 games.

  11. 6 Vezina's and some cups.....42 years old....Great time to retire while in the spotlight. I hate when players try to keep it going past there prime. Very few people remember Gretzky was a St. Louis Blue & the Garden didn't even hang his Jersey up. Timing makes good for a perfect end. I never liked his style but he was great in his own way.

    Congrats Dom.

  12. His best days are behind him, he's got nothing left to prove.  First-ballot Hall of Famer for sure.

  13. he's old and I think that Detroit showed him the way out the door with little/no playing time in the playoffs. Dominik will forever be known as one of the best, he's got nothing left to lose by retiring. Hes got his $ and now he can't be injured

  14. i think he knew it was time to hang up his skates. he had an awesome career and it is time to turn it over to someone else. they didn't call him the dominator all those years for nothing.
