Dominika Cibulkova, Jelena Dokic through to the third round – UNICEF Open 2011
Number five seed Dominika Cibulkova secured a thumping 6-0, 6-1 victory over German tennis-pro Kristina Barrois on Wednesday to make it to the third round of 2011 UNICEF Open in Hertogenbosch.
Ranked 23rd in the Women’s Tennis Association, Cibulkova looked in absolutely fabulous touch as she required only 56 minutes dispatching her opponent. Making a great start she broke the serve in the very first game of
the match to put herself in the driving seat. Barrois was unable to recover as she suffered two more serve breaks in the set to let the Slovakian take the set score lead 1-0.
The second set also followed a very similar pattern with Cibulkova dashing her big forehand and backhand winners all over the court. Showing her grass court skills, she played some exciting ground strokes. Breaking the serve twice,
she made three match points available to her and then converted the first one to seal an emphatic victory.
Cibulkova’s strong and accurate serve proved to be the main difference between the contestants as she secured 71 per cent of the points on her serve. Playing the big points really well, she converted five out five break chances
during the contest. Barrois struggled to time the ball and paid the price for her unforced errors.
In another match at the WTA tournament, Jelena Dokic ousted number four seed Flavia Pennetta 6-3, 6-4 to advance into the third round.
Having secured a great victory over Alla Kudryavtseva in her opening match, Dokic made a very confident start to the match.  A break of serve in second game of the opener provided her with the momentum she was looking for as she
clinched the set 6-3.
The Australian broke Pennetta early in the second set as well to earn a crucial 4-2 lead. Although Pennetta broke back to even the score 4-4, she failed to stop her opponent from earning a deserving win in a one sided contest.
Making five double faults in the match, Dokic must work hard to eliminate the discrepancies in her game as she may not get away with her unforced errors against a top seeded player.
