Dominika Cibulkova outmuscles Vania King in the second round clash – French Open 2012
World number 16, Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia, continued with her dominating run at the French Open campaign and outperformed the unseeded American, Vania King, in the second round on Wednesday. The 15th seed Slovak
breezed her way past King in straight sets, settling the final score line at 6-0, 6-2, to book a berth in the third round of the clay-court Grand Slam event at Roland Garros.
The local crowd in Paris, France, witnessed the 23-year-old Slovakian thrashing King to all parts of the court throughout the matchup. Cibulkova spared merely two games for her opponent in the entire matchup before dumping her
out of the star-studded event. She was facing the 57th ranked American for the fourth time in her professional career. King had earlier defeated the Slovak tennis ace on three successive occasions but it was the payback time for Cibulkova. She gave
absolutely no chance to King to get settled in the contest and cruised through the two sets with commanding ease to curtail the head-to-head deficit at 1-3 against the American.
The 15th seed Slovak had an ordinary first serve precision of 55 per cent in the match but clinched 17 out of 22 points on it to get under the skin of the American opponent. She crafted a total of 10 break opportunities
in the match and converted half of them en route to victory. On the other hand, King utterly failed to register a single break point in the entire matchup, frittering away two vital chances to finish on the losing side in the end.
The opening set of the match was an all-Slovak show, with Cibulkova dominating every second of it. Winning the toss, the 15th seed contender held the opening serve of the match before launching her all-round onslaught
upon King. Cibulkova went on for a six-game killing spree, breaking the American serve three times in a row and rocketed away to 6-0 to claim the opener with a bagel.
King finally held her serve for the first time in the second game of the following set and dragged the scores to 2-2. Cibulkova shifted her gears once again and reeled off the next four games to conclude her comprehensive victory
at 6-2. She will next face the unseeded Spaniard, Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez, in the third round of the French Open later this week. Sanchez stunned the 20th seed Czech, Lucie Safarova, in the second round brawl.
