Dominika Cibulkova rushes past Elena Vesnina into final match – Kremlin Cup 2011
Eighth seeded Slovak Dominika Cibulkova ousted the unseeded Russian Elena Vesnina in semi-final of the Kremlin Cup 2011. The two rivals competed on indoor hard courts of the Olympic Stadium in Moscow, Russia. After just sixty five
minutes the sixth seeded Slovak flogged the unseeded Russian in straight sets of 6-0, 6-2 on Saturday the 22nd of October 2011.
The first round of the match was initiated by Cibulkova after winning the toss and she comfortably placed herself on the scoreboard at 1-0. On the other hand, Vesnina got off to a poor start as she double faulted on her serve and
endorsed an early break Cibulkova, who now had taken a mini lead of 2-0 on the scoreboard. In the following two games Cibulkova once again capitalized on a break point and by the end of the fourth game, she had reeled off straight four games to place herself
at 4-0 on the scoreboard.
As she powered through the remaining set, she not only capitalized a hundred percent on her breakpoints but also managed to hold her service games and in the last two games she once more held her serve and broke her adversary to
clog the opening set with a bagel victory.
The second set of the match was also initiated by the eighth seeded Slovak and both the players traded breaks to place themselves at 1-1 on the scoreboard. Cibulkova then held her serve in the third game and took a mini lead of
2-1. In the following two games the players broke each other one after the other. However, as Vesnina hit a forehand shot it went way ward and she erred gifting a crucial game to her opponent.
By the end of the sixth game the score had progressed to 4-2 with Cibulkova leading. The sixth seeded Slovak held her serve for the last time in the seventh game and was now only a game away from victory. The serve switched and
as the unseeded Russian served, she double faulted on her second serve and gifted the set and the match to the eighth seeded Slovak.
Next up for Cibulkova is Estonian Kaia Kanepi in the title match.
