Dominika Cibulkova slays Alexandra Cadantu to reach the second round – UNICEF Open 2012
Third seed Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia slaughtered the 84th ranked Romanian, Alexandra Cadantu, to reach the second round of the UNICEF Open on Monday. She posted resounding straight sets 6-2, 6-2 triumph over the
22-year-old Romanian consuming just a fraction over an hour of the time.
Cibulkova commenced the match proceedings with a serve hold and soon pounded on to her opponent to bag the first breakthrough of the match in the second game. She held her serve to 40:15 in the following game that gave her an unassailable
lead of 3-0 upfront.
The third seed Slovak was extremely disappointed to have not reached the advanced stages of the Roland Garros French Open tournament and wanted to perform well in the warm-up tournament before the start of the year’s third Grand
Slam Champion at Wimbledon.
She has improved her ranking considerably and stands firm at the 13th spot in the world at the moment. She would like to break into the Top-10 players of the world by the end of the grass court season and for that she
needs to grab a lot of points from the upcoming Grand Slam Championship, starting June 25.
Her aggressive attitude kept running the show at s-Hertogenbosch on Monday and she bagged another breakthrough in the eighth game of the opening set to round off the first phase of the match. Trailing one set down, the Romanian
starlet looked pretty ordinary with her shot selection and couldn’t read the mind of her opponent that cost her few points.
The Slovak third seed started the second set in the same fashion; broke serve in the second game and took 3-0 lead at the start. It looked like she was going to power down her opponent with a bagel to her name but the 22-year-old
Romanian restored some respect and held serve to diminish any chances of a bagel. However, her resistance was short lived as the Slovak beauty queen broke serve again in the sixth game to register a crushing lead of 5-1. Breakpoints were exchanged in the final
two games of the match that ended the encounter in favour of Cibulkova.
The top seed starlet, Samantha Stosur, and the second seed contestant, Sara Errani, are dumped in the opening round of the tournament. So, technically Cibulkova becomes the hot favourite player to grab the title. She will play
her next round match with the Israeli star, Shahar Peer.
