Dominika Cibulkova tramples Marina Erakovic in the quarterfinal – Bank of the West Classic 2011
Kicking off on the 29th of July 2011 was the quarterfinal of the Bank of the West Classic 2011 between the Slovakian, Dominika Cibulkova and the Kiwi Marina Erakovic at the Taube Family Tennis Center, Stanford University,
California. The 22-year-old (Dominika) won the match 6-1, 6-1.
During the overall match both the players aced four times and due to lack of precision both struck four double faults.
Although Marina managed to hit fifty three percent of her first serve shots on target, she lost most of her points in the second serve, along with a below the par return. Mean while, Dominika’s serve was stronger and won an exceptional
sixty seven percent of her total serve points of the first set.
The Slovakian had a solid defence as she was able to win a commendable fifty eight percent in her total return points, while, Marina had a meagre thirty three percent.
Although, she gave five break points she managed to save all of them and also capitalized on fifty percent of break points opportunities presented by her opponent during the first set. Whereas, Erakovic had gave away ten break
points opportunities out of which she was only able to save five. Dominika won the set with twenty six percent more points in the total set points than her opponent’s.
During the second set Cibulkova won a grand eighty six percent of the total serve points, along with an exceptional return serve, which eventually gained her points.  However, she had a defence that was unshakeable and did not
allow her opponent a single break point chance but instead managed to win the fifty percent of her break points. Her opponent on the contrary had a great serve but lacked in her defence and had given five creak point opportunities to her Cibulkova.
The world number 19 (Dominika) won the set with more than twice as many points as Marina’s, because of her defensive techniques. It was a flawless and effortless victory of 6-1, 6-1.
Born on the 6th of May, 1989 the Slovakian reached her career high ranking of world number 12 on July the 6th 2009, she is also a former World Junior No. 3, achieving that ranking in May 2005. This year she
reached the quarter finals at Wimbledon Championships but lost to the world number 5 Maria Sharapova. The most notable performance of her career was when she reached the semi-finals at the French Open in 2009.
She will now be facing the French Marion Bartoli in the semi-final of the Bank of the West Classic 2011.
