Dominique Baeyens named as the new mentor of Belgium national team – Volleyball news
Dominique Baeyens has been appointed as the new head coach of Belgium Men’s National Volleyball Team on Tuesday, March 27.
Baeyens, who formerly led Belgium’s top volleyball club of Knack ROESELARE for fifteen seasons, has finally taken over the charge of national team.
The former head coach of national team Claudio Gewehr parted ways with the team just few weeks back. After the departure of Gewehr, the Board of Belgian team received many applications for the post of head coach.
However, the team management went through a lot of thought process and evaluated all the applicants. Following a strict assessment, the final decision was disclosed and Baeyens emerged as the next mentor of Belgium’s national team.
Gewehr stepped down from his position of head coach but he will continue his work for the Royal Belgian Volleyball Federation in a different role. He will be responsible for coordination and performance of young volleyball coaches. In addition, he will also
devote his time for the betterment of national teams.
Hence, Gewehr has a new role in the Royal Belgian Volleyball Federation. Baeyens has replaced Gewehr, while former assistant Belgium national junior team Emile Rousseaux will replace Baeyens in Roeselare.
The 56-year old Baeyens has great many achievements to his name. He settled for the award of Belgium’s “Coach of the Year” for a total of eight times. He provided his services to various club teams in Belgium and helped a lot of players to catch the limelight.
Most recently, he helped Knack ROESELARE to earn a great name in domestic competitions. He enabled ROESELARE to claim six national titles during his tenure. Moreover, the team also seized five supercup and four nationals under the leadership of Baeyens.
Now that Baeyens has accepted the influential role of head coach, he will have the daunting task of leading the national to final phase of 2012 CEV Volleyball European Champions.
The coach has high hopes that he will make good use of time and prepare his team for tough encounters in future. The national team players are also excited to work with the experienced coach and hope to benefit from his knowledge.
