Dominique Bouchard clinches Women’s 100m backstroke: Day one – 2012 Canadian Summer Nationals
Dominique Bouchard of TITANS clinched gold medal of the Women’s 100m backstroke on initial day of the 2012 Canadian Summer Nationals at the Edmonton Kinsmen Sport Centre in Edmonton on Thursday, July 19.
Bouchard dictated terms to her opponents as she dominated her way in the double lap backstroke discipline. With her astonishing efforts, she sustained her fastest qualification spot of the event and made her way to the finishing end for gold medal.
Her notable efforts placed her prominently ahead of her strongest challenger as she tapped the wall for gold medal by posting a time of 1 minute and 01.53 seconds.
The champion was followed by Genevieve Cantin of Rouge ET OR, who stayed 0.25 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and tapped the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 01.78 seconds for silver medal.
Third finest spot of the discipline was secured by Lauren Lavigna of VAND, who remained 0.66 seconds slower from upsetting her foregoing finisher and touched the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 02.44 seconds.
Lavigna remained in a lead of 0.46 seconds over her following swimmer and team-member, Samantha Corea and Brooklynn Snodgrass of CASC, who ended their swims in a joint fourth finish.
The duo failed to overpower each other over the finishing end for fourth position and settled on the finishing end by clocking a same time of 1 minute and 02.90 seconds.
Sixth finest spot of the event was obtained by Kristina Steins of Dolphins Swimming, who stayed 0.05 seconds apart and ended her race in a time of 1 minute and 02.95 seconds.
Steins was trailed by Chantal Van Landeghem of MANTA, who earned seventh position of the event by clocking a time of 1 minute and 03.18 seconds.
Similarly, Landeghem was followed by Cynthia Pammett of TRENT, who stayed 0.61 seconds behind and ended eighth in the event by clocking a time of 1 minute and 03.79 seconds.
In addition, Bouchard was delighted with her feat in the backstroke discipline and said that she would try to do the same at forthcoming swimming events.
