Dominique Bouchard pockets Women’s 50m backstroke gold: Day two – 2012 Canadian Summer Nationals
Dominique Bouchard of TITANS pocketed gold medal of the Women’s 50m backstroke on second day of the 2012 Canadian Summer Nationals at the Edmonton Kinsmen Sport Centre in Edmonton on Friday, July 20.
The 21-year-old Bouchard stifled hopes of her challengers in the single lap backstroke discipline and transpired on the finishing blockade for gold medal.
With her astonishing efforts, she remained just one arm-stroke ahead of her strongest challenger and reached the wall for gold medal with the timing of 29.26 seconds.
The gold medallist was trailed by Chantal VanLandeghem of MANTA, who suffered a loss of 0.21 seconds from her foregoing finisher and surfaced on the finishing end as second position holder by producing a time of 29.47 seconds.
VanLandeghem was chased by Brooklynn Snodgrass of CASC, who remained 0.09 seconds apart and made her way to the finishing blockade as third position holder by submitting a time of 29.56 seconds.
Snodgrass was trailed by Lauren Lavigna of VAND, who stayed only 0.08 seconds slower from overpowering the bronze medallist and settled on the finishing end as fourth fastest swimmer by clocking an effort of 29.64 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the race was occupied by Marie-Pier Couillard of Riverains, who stayed 0.02 seconds slower from the fourth position holder and hit the finishing blockade with the timing of 29.66 seconds.
The 20-year-old Couillard was chased by Samantha Corea of VAND, who stayed 0.05 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and surfaced on the finishing end as sixth fastest swimmer by hitting the wall with an effort of 29.71 seconds.
Seventh best position of the race was obtained by Kristina Steins of Dolphins Swimming, who remained just an inch slower from Corea and tapped the wall with the timing of 29.77 seconds.
Subsequently, Steins was followed by Erin Stamp of GMAC, who was only 0.10 seconds away from her preceding swimmer and made her way to the finishing end as eighth position holder by clocking a time of 29.87 seconds.
In addition, Bouchard received a huge round of applause from the crowd for her notable efforts in the 50m event.
